Greetings Quaker Road Families, What a fantastic, action-packed week we had last week! Thank you so much to everyone who was able to attend our Open House and first Parent Council Meeting. We had a wonderful turnout for both, and we truly enjoyed connecting with so many of you. Our Scholastic Book Fair was also a huge success! A very special thank you goes to Madame Sims for all her hard work organizing and running the book fair. Additionally, we are so proud of our students and community for their participation in last Friday's Terry Fox Walk. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mrs Gula and Mr Niven for organizing this meaningful and important event for our school. This week, our intermediate classes will be heading to Chippawa Park on Monday for their field trip. On Tuesday, participating students have their next cross-country meet. Also on Tuesday, we will recognize Rowan’s Law Day, and we are inviting everyone to wear purple. Wednesday is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and we are encouraging everyone to wear orange. Please see the additional information section below for more on these Days of Significance. Additional Information for Families: DSBN Days of Significance Calendar: The intent of the Days of Significance Calendar is to:
Rowan’s Law Day: This year, Rowan’s Law Day will be observed in all DSBN schools on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Rowan’s Law Day typically falls on the last Wednesday of September, which is September 30 this year—the same day as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Observing Rowan’s Law Day on September 29 allows each day to be recognized separately. Rowan’s Law Day raises awareness about concussion safety and safe participation in amateur contact sports. Rowan’s Law has changed the culture of sport in Ontario. Every athlete is safer because the entire sport community, from athletes to spectators, better understands the vital role they play in recognizing the signs and symptoms of a concussion and reducing the pressure to continue playing following a head injury. National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: Wednesday, September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a time to honour residential school survivors, their families, and Indigenous communities. It’s a day for reflection, learning, and action—especially within our schools. It is also a time to focus on Reconciliation—highlighting how Indigenous Nations continue to survive, resist, and thrive today. Residential Schools are part of the story, but not the whole story. | |
